Yes! You can sync your FamilyWall calendar with Skylight, Cozyla, Hearth Display, and other home hubs or apps that support calendar import or sync via URL. Just use your FamilyWall’s iCal URL.

How to sync your FamilyWall calendar with Skylight, Cozyla, or Hearth Display.

Syncing your calendar with home hub services like Skylight, Cozyla, or Hearth Display is a simple process that only takes a few steps. Here’s how to get started:

If you're using the mobile app on iOS or Android:

  • Open the FamilyWall app and go to the “Calendar” section from the home screen.
  • Tap the gear icon at the top right corner to open Calendar Settings.
  • In this view, you'll see a list of all your calendars. Select the calendar you want to sync.
  • You’ll be redirected to the Calendar Details screen. If no link has been created yet, tap "Generate iCal URL".
  • The app will generate and display a unique iCal link. Tap it to copy it to your clipboard.
  • Open your smart device or external calendar app (Skylight, Cozyla, Hearth Display, etc.).
  • Find the option to add an external calendar, sync via URL, subscrible to calendar or import iCal
  • Paste the copied FamilyWall URL in the appropriate field.
  • Complete the process by following any remaining instructions specific to your device.

If you're on the FamilyWall website:

  • Log into your FamilyWall account and go to the Calendar section.
  • Open the Calendars panel using the pane icon at the top right, if it’s not already visible.
  • Select the calendar you want to sync and click the chevron icon next to its name.
  • In the Calendar Settings modal that opens, click "Generate iCal URL" if it hasn’t been created yet.
  • Once the iCal URL appears, click on Copy.
  • Open the smart display or external calendar app (e.g., Skylight, Cozyla, Hearth Display).
  • Paste the FamilyWall URL into the field to import a calendar via URL.
  • Complete any remaining steps prompted by the app.

Your FamilyWall events should now appear on your smart display or external calendar app.

How the sync works

To avoid confusion, it's helpful to understand how this calendar sync behaves. While it's useful for sharing schedules, it does come with a few limitations:

  • Sync is one-way: events from FamilyWall will appear on your connected device, but edits made there won’t sync back to FamilyWall.
  • Updates are not real-time: most devices refresh every 15–60 minutes.
  • You can reset or stop sharing the iCal URL at any time from the same Calendar Details screen in FamilyWall.

Tips

Using the iCal URL is a great way to keep the whole family informed, especially if you're using multiple displays or platforms. Here are some suggestions to make it even easier:

  • Add the same iCal link to several devices if different family members have their own displays.
  • Look for visual customization options on your smart device, like renaming the calendar or assigning it a specific color.
  • Avoid sharing the URL with others unless you want them to see all the events in that calendar.
